The effort to return an increased number of employees to the HCI campus requires the close involvement of CATG. Below are things to consider when planning for an employee to return to the building for all or some of their work hours.

Computer Equipment Availability

Currently, there are significant shortages and backorders for new computer equipment, including laptops, towers, monitors, and accessories. CATG also does not have spares available for loan. Therefore, new equipment will generally not be available by August 1st, so any equipment which was taken home will need to be returned to HCI, if needed for the employee's work in the building.

RETURNING TO YOUR HCI DESK

You will need to return all equipment to your office space.

  • Coordinate with CATG to set up equipment
    • Even if you feel you have the ability to set up the equipment, it's advisable to have someone from CATG available to assist in the event there are any issues with network connectivity.
    • CATG will also need to validate each system to ensure that it  has received appropriate security updates while away from the HCI network. If a system is connected and CATG are alerted to an issue, CATG will block that system from network access, pending a resolution.
    • CATG has set up a scheduling system allowing you to work with CATG on reserving resource for assistance:
      • If you return to the bulding and use the scheduling system:
        • You can check for available support slots by checking this calendar: Return To Work Calendar.  The number for each day indicates how many support slots remain.
        • Submit a ServiceNow ticket indicating you are requesting help in returning to the building.  Indicate which day you would like to return and receive help, based on avaialble days in the calendar.
        • The support staff will confirm the date and update the calendar.   If you need to change the date, please reach out to us at 801-585-0330 and let us know at least 48 hours before the scheduled data, where possible.
      • If you return to the building without using the scheduling system:
        • You will still need to submit a ServiceNow ticket for help.  Because resources will be limited, this could result in a days long wait before your system can be reconnected.

Working in hybrid mode

  • If you plan to "remote in" to a computer running at HCI:
    • You can use either a personal or HCI owned computer.
    • If you need to remote control a Mac, CATG does not currently have a fully supported solution for this.  We are reviewing options and working with other Mac managers and campus security resources to help us validate those options.  We hope to have a solution in place in the fall of 2022.
  • If you plan to use VPN to access HCI resources:
    • You must use an HCI owned/managed computer to use VPN.  Personal computers will not be allowed to use VPN resources due to the potential security exposure.
  • If you plan to use a virtual desktop (VDI) to access resources:
    • You can use either a personal or HCI owned computer.
    • Virtual Desktops are Windows only.

 Questions for CATG

  • There will be numerous questions regarding returning to the building. To help CATG efficiently address all questions and concerns, please address your questions to your manager. The manager can collect the questions and issues and pass along to CATG. This will enable your manager to understand any concerns or challenges you may have.
