Project Overview and Objectives

Email has become a ubiquitous, crucial resource for users and groups.  Because it has become so pervasive and essential for not just e-mail messaging, but for calendaring, arranging meetings, sharing calendar data, etc, the overall value of an Email system is increasingly predicated on how well users can interact with their work associates.

As HCI simultaneously becomes larger, and HCI email users collaborate with other groups and users in other areas of the University of Utah, it makes sense to simplify the email experience by moving HCI's users and groups to the central U of U UMail system.   This will eliminate long standing issues, like where to locate users, how to create working groups of individuals in different areas of HCI, U of U Health Sciences and other areas of the University of Utah.

This project intends to migrate HCI users, groups, and "resources" - eg, conference room calendars - to the UMail system with the least amount of disruption possible.   The nature of this type of merger by definition means there will be *some* disruption, though the project team has taken great measures to mitigate against the most disruptive parts of this move.
