After September of 2013, HCI users will be prohibited from using unencrypted laptop systems to work on HCI or U of U Health Sciences data, or from connecting to HCI or U of U Health Sciences systems, either locally (ie, at HCI) or remotely (from home, while on vacation, at other locations). 

Examples of prohibited use:

- Using an unencrypted laptop to connect to PowerChart or EPIC

- using an enuncrypted USB thumb drive while at work.

- Using an unencrypted laptop to connect to HCI Email / Webmail, or U-Mail (either via Outlook, some other client, or via Outlook Web Access / webmail)

- Using an unencrypted laptop to connect to HCI Portal systems

- Using an unencrypted laptop to connect to HCI Research Informatics applications (such as Subject, Purchasing, Genomics, etc)

- Using an unencrypted laptop to work on HCI or U of U Health Sciences related projects offline

- Using an unencrypted laptop to work on data, even if the data is stored on an encrypted USB thumb drive

- Backing up an encrypted laptop used for HCI / U of U Health Sciences work to an unencrypted external mobile storage device, such as an AirPort TimeCapsule device, or any one of the portable USB external drives commonly available.

- Accessing any U of U Health Sciences, HCI or U-Mail systems from unencrypted systems, anywhere (such as at a trade conference or hotel "business center" system)
