Connecting to a Network Printer 

On a Windows 10 PC:

On a Windows 7 PC:

On a Windows 8 PC:
  1.  Start a Search
    1. Option 1 - navigate to the Charms menu - hover mouse over upper right or lower right corner, then select the Search icon (magnifying glass)
    2. Option 2 - hold down the Windows Key and press the letter Q
  2. Type "Run" in the search box
    1. (Free Tip - you can keep the Run command on your Start menu, or on your Task Bar by right-clicking, and adding it to one or both).
  3. Type \\hci-printers, or \\hch-printers in the Run box.
  4. Select the printer you want to use.  Like with Windows 7, the printer driver will automatically load, and you should be able to print a test page.
NOTE: If you don't know the name of the printer you're trying to connect to, simply enter \\HCH-Printers or \\HCI-Printers into the search box.  This will open a window with the list of all printers available.  Once you find your printer, double click on it and you should see the printer connecting and downloading drivers.  Once it is done installing, print a test page.

On a Macintosh:

1.       Click on the "Apple" icon;

2.       Open "System Preferences" window;

3.       Open "Printer and Scanner" window;

4.        Click "+" (Add)

5.       In tool bar, there should "IP".

 

Add printer

6.       Click "IP" :

    1. In Protocol select: LPD
    2. In Address put in the server name: hci-printers.hci.utah.edu (Research Side) or hch-printers.hci.utah.edu (Hospital Side)
    3. In Queue put in the name of the printer: ex. HCI-3104 or HCH-2240
    4. In Name put in the printer name again: ex. HCI-3104 or HCH-2240
    5. In location put anything you would like (Not Required): ex. 3rd Floor Break Room
    6. For Drivers use:  Generic Postscript printer
    7. Click "Add"
    8. Don't forget to check Duplex Printing Unit, if you definitely need to print double side pages.
    9. Click "OK"

*Note*

  • If  you using Epic, please close your Epic session fully for about 5 minutes, this will allow the system to re-sync the printer for you and you should have smooth sailing with Epic "Front End" printing.
  • Mac users will most likely need to delete and then re-add any printers they had some changed on printer servers recently (8/1/2014).
  • If you are using the wireless services, make sure you are using the HuntsmanWiFi .
