Backing up data on local PC hard drives

This document describes how to setup an icon on your desktop that will backup your Desktop items, and the items in your Documents folder.   This documentation assumes you login to the HCI domain on a PC located on the HCI network.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to the X:\Public folder through the Folder icon on the task bar, or via "This Computer"

  2. If you use a O drive, right-click on the Backup-ODrive.cmd file, then right-drag it to your Desktop, and then select "Create Shortcut here" at the popup menu.

  3. If you use a G drive, right-click on the Backup-GDrive.cmd file, then right-drag it to your Desktop, and then select "Create Shortcut here" at the popup menu.

  4. Locate this new shortcut on your desktop, and double-click it.   This will backup your Desktop and folders and Documents folder (and subfolders) to a BU folder created on your O drive or G drive.  Re-run this command periodically, and double-check the contents of your O drive

  5. If you don't have a O drive or a G drive, call our Help Desk at x-5-0330 and we'll arrange to get one setup for you.
